Superhumanoids - Dangerous Strangers

This Los Angeles outfit’s music is solid from top to bottom. They so clearly understand the well-crafted 3:00-minute pop song. Get in, hook ‘em, get out. Bob your head along the way, and tap your feet. Not too sweet, not too sour.

Pick up their EP Urgency free on Soundcloud digitally or buy it on limited-editon red vinyl from Hit City USA

And Vice Versa - The Brain into the Sea

Last year I blogged about a Californian musician named Erik Luebs who was living in Japan at the time performing under the moniker Magical Mistakes. He just sent me a note telling me about a new split EP Going Nowhere he’s put out with Osakan producer Masayuki Kubo (aka And Vice Versa).  The whole thing is free up on their website, and I’m pulling out this track in particular as just one sample of the sweet electro dream-pop from that half the record. Do check out the whole thing, though, as Erik writes stunningly beautiful tunes in his own right [MP3: Magical Mistakes - Early Morning Come Down].

Look for Magical Mistakes to be touring the East Coast in early September.  He’s putting together the tour now, not sure if Kubo will be with him or not, but I’ll keep y’all posted.

Home

Holy, Moley, me, oh my,
You’re the apple of my eye,
Girl I’ve never loved one like you.

Man oh man you’re my best friend,
I scream it to the nothingness,
There ain’t nothing that I need.

Well, hot and heavy, pumpkin pie,
Chocolate candy, Jesus Christ,
Ain’t nothing please me more than you.

Ahh Home. Let me come home
Home is wherever I’m with you.
Ahh Home. Let me go ho-oh-ome.
Home is wherever I’m with you.

I’ll follow you into the park,
Through the jungle through the dark,

Girl I never loved one like you.
Moats and boats and waterfalls,
Alley-ways and pay phone calls,
I’ve been everywhere with you.

We laugh until we think we’ll die,
Barefoot on a summer night
Nothin’ new is sweeter than with you

And in the streets you run afree,
Like it’s only you and me,
Geeze, you’re something to see.

Ahh Home. Let me go home.
Home is wherever I’m with you.
Ahh Home. Let me go ho-oh-ome.
Home is wherever I’m with you.

Sunday Bloody Sunday | Colin Munroe
originally by U2
(Amazon)

If there’s any benefit to my weirdly augmented sleep schedule, it’s that the wee hours of the night give me the opportunity to look for music that I otherwise don’t think about during the day.

Also, it’s kind of crazy to think of how a canceled U2 concert tour can affect a business. Regardless of what you think of the band, they rake in a huge chunk of change for Live Nation—as does Christina Aguilera, who has also canceled her Summer tour. While the concert industry will very likely still survive, it has still taken a multi-million dollar hit.
